About the Role

Plastic Oceans Australasia (POA) is looking for passionate individuals across Australia to join our team in the position of Education Officer for Schools as a volunteer with opportunities to move to paid for ideal candidate. In this role, you will help to scale up and deliver our Education Program to primary and secondary schools within your region.

As an Education Officer, you’ll work closely with the Education Coordinator and a wide variety of other volunteers and interns.

Responsibilities

  • Pursue primary and secondary schools to join the Plastic Oceans Australasia Education Program in your region

  • Facilitate onboarding of schools to the Education Program

  • Act as a point of contact for active schools in your region

  • Facilitate/deliver workshops to active schools

  • Regularly collect feedback on schools’ progress in reducing single use plastic waste

Requirements


  • Great communication skills in both written and oral form

  • Demonstrated experience in facilitation of education programs/workshops/presentations (particularly with school aged children)

  • Ability to work autonomously and in a team

  • Can work online and remotely some of the time

  • Demonstrated ability to use MS Word, Excel and Outlook. Knowledge of Microsoft Teams, SharePoint and Microsoft Access is an advantage.

  • Current (or willing to obtain) National Police Check

  • Current (or willing to obtain) Working With Children Check

  • Current Driver's License

  • Interested in environmental sustainability and passionate about marine life, human health and waterways

  • Familiar with not-for-profit organisations and culture

  • Able to devote at least 4 hrs/week to the role
